Welcome to Family Mediation Week! The idea behind this week is to raise awareness of what mediation is and the benefits of using mediation to resolve family issues.
Mediation can help with almost every issue a family may face on separation; from arrangements for the children to agree on how your finances will be divided. Mediation enables couples to remain at the centre of the discussions that need to be had, without those discussions turning into arguments.
Whilst the mediator cannot advise, they can facilitate communication and negotiation in a safe environment. You can and should take legal advice alongside mediation, but using mediation effectively can significantly reduce the legal fees you face.
Mediation is also really flexible – it can be face-to-face, remote or dealt with on a shuttle basis so that the parties each communicate separately with the mediator but not directly with each other if that is their preference.
Families can also explore child-inclusive mediation, so that their children can have a voice in the process and be heard, in an age-appropriate manner that shields them from being directly involved in the decisions their parents need to make.

If you would like to discuss whether mediation can help you, please contact us for a free 15-minute consultation and we will be happy to discuss this with you. Whilst we don’t offer a mediation service, we have links with many family mediators and will be happy to signpost you in the right direction. We can also provide you with the specialist legal advice you will need alongside the mediation process.
