Birkett Long is delighted to announce that Kay Baker has joined its Court of Protection and Inheritance Disputes team as a Senior Associate Solicitor.

Kay specialises in probate, trusts and Court of Protection disputes.

After studying law at the University of Manchester, Kay did her Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of the West of England and completed her training contract at an Essex based firm. She qualified as a solicitor 15 years ago and prior to joining Birkett Long worked at a local firm where she dealt with contentious and non-contentious probate work.

Kay is a member of STEP, Solicitors for the Elderly and the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS). She is also an accredited civil and commercial mediator. With this wide ranging technical ability her experience has already proven to be of huge benefit to clients who face what are often difficult and emotional disputes over inheritances.

During her career Kay has dealt with many large and complex cases and has gained experience as an independent administrator.
Of her appointment to the Court of Protection and Inheritance Disputes team at Birkett Long, Kay said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to be part of this team. Its reputation for being thorough, sensitive and commercially sound mirrors my own approach.”

Kay enjoys the culture at Birkett Long too, saying: “I like the obvious commitment to nurturing staff and to staff wellbeing.”

Kay has two young daughters and, like any parent, spends her time running around after them! She is involved with the Parent Teacher Association at their school and has been an active member of the Rotary Club for a number of years.

When she does have a moment to herself, Kay enjoys walking the family’s golden retriever.
